New Years

Characterized well by being named for a European capital, our friend Amsterdam is a true son of the south in the best traditions of good manners, elegance and gentility. We had a very nice time one New Year Eve enjoying the good conversation and camaraderie. At the appointed time, Amsterdam laid out a fabulous New Year’s feast made up of traditional southern foods. We dined on ham, black-eyed peas and corn bread while we welcomed in the New Year. Thanks to Amsterdam, while the rest of America was eating the similar southern food with everyday dishes, we dined using fine bone china with sterling silver implements. We laid linen napkins across our laps (that were actually made of linen) and we drank from beautiful lead crystal. It allowed us, in that moment in time, to feel very fancy.
